The series is dedicated to British anatomist Richard Owen’s findings on the commonalities of fossilised creatures uncovered in the nineteenth-century – the so called ‘Dinosauria’. The Hylaeosaurus is the last of three creatures that Owen discovered to be closely related to be celebrated on an official 2020 50p, following the Megalosaurus and the Iguanodon, issued earlier this year.

The coin has been officially licensed by The Natural History Museum and designed by Robert Nicholls who specialises in creating accurate reconstructions of natural history specimens.
