My Top 3 Collectables for 2018…

Happy New Year’s Eve! Hope you’re all looking forward to seeing the New Year in this evening and here’s to a great 2019.

Over the last few days, I’ve been reflecting on 2018 and all the memories and moments that have meant the most to me. It’s been a big year for us at Collectology – we launched our website back in May this year and it’s been non-stop busy since then!

It’s been nice to wind down and reflect over the festive period and look back on how far we’ve come! So I wanted to share with you my top three collectables for 2018– each one tells a story that’s close to my heart and they’ve also struck a chord with collectors…

The Jeremy Bulloch Framed Signature Edition

First up, it’s the Jeremy Bulloch Framed Signature Edition. This is one of my favourites because it takes me back to the day that the REAL Boba Fett (actor, Jeremy Bulloch), the intergalactic bounty hunter from Star Wars came to visit our offices. He was such a great guy with so many stories about all the people he’s met including Harrison Ford! Whilst he visited, we had a good chat with Jeremy on camera (you can watch our interview with Jeremy by clicking here >>) and he even hand-signed some items for collectors! What a day!

Boba Fett collectables are incredibly collectable too – especially hand-signed versions. In fact, a Boba Fett toy once sold for $150,000 on eBay! you can read more about this in my previous blog by clicking here >>

Sadly, Jeremy announced a few months ago that he’s retired from public signings, which filled us all with sadness at Collectology because he’s a firm favourite at Comic Cons. We were actually lucky enough to bump into him again back in September at the London Film and Comic Con just before he retired though!…

What does this mean for collectors though?

Well, his autograph is becoming rarer and rarer and in turn, all the more sought-after

In fact, when he came to visit, Jeremy signed 500 capsule editions for us which completely SOLD OUT

Luckily, we still have a few of the framed editions featuring his hand-signature remaining from the tiny edition limit of just 100 worldwide. Each one features a photograph of Jeremy in his Boba Fett costume alongside Official Royal Mail Boba Fett stamps and his hand-signature beautifully mounted and framed.

The Golden Girl Signed Pop! Vinyl

There’s not many people who can say they’ve met a Bond girl, but I’m lucky enough to say I have…

Earlier this year, I went to visit and spend the day with one of the most famous Bond girls of all – the ‘Golden Girl’ herself, Jill Masterson – actress Shirley Eaton who starred alongside Sean Connery in fan-favourite, Goldfinger (you can check out my interview with Shirley by clicking here >> ) and she even signed some exclusive items for collectors!

It was a special day for me as I remember watching the Bond films as a kid with my Dad who is a huge Bond fan and I always admired the Bond girls – I mean, any girl’s dream is to be a Bond girl, right?! So as I’ve been reflecting on 2018 and my favourite moments, this one instantly sprang to mind.

Whilst we visited her, Shirley hand-signed some capsule editions featuring the Bond 10p for us, which completely SOLD OUT...

She also signed 50 James Bond Golden Girl Pop! Vinyl figures which sold out too. Luckily, Shirley agreed to sign another 50 for us and we have a handful left...

I love them - Pop! Vinyls are a great, fun addition to any collection and when they’re hand-signed, they become even more sought-after! For all these reasons, the Golden Girl Signed Pop! Vinyl figure is one of my favourite pieces of the year…

 The Spitfire Signature Framed Edition

My third and final favourite is definitely the most poignant of all…

This year marked 100 years of the Royal Air Force – an incredible milestone and one that’s been marked up and down the country throughout the year. My Grandfather served in the Second World War and my Great Uncle was in the RAF himself so it’s an anniversary that’s particularly close to my heart.

Plus, I live close to Bournemouth where one of the country’s biggest air shows is held every year in August. This year, they marked the centenary by displaying a number of aircraft from the RAF throughout the festival – it was so great to watch!

That’s why I was so honoured to travel to Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent a few months ago to meet a real life Spitfire pilot – Parky. Parky served in the RAF for 38 years and was a Red Arrow! He also flew with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight! I had the pleasure of interviewing him on the day and watched him fly some RAF Centenary coins in a Spitfire before signing some items for us… I loved meeting Parky – he had fantastic stories and memories to tell you can watch my interview with Parky by clicking here >>

The coins flown in the Spitfire SOLD OUT within days of release but luckily, Parky also signed some Spitfire Framed presentations for us and I think they are the ultimate tribute to the world’s most legendary aircraft…

It features a fantastically detailed full-colour technical drawing of one of the few remaining airworthy Spitfires by expert specialist Military illustrator, Bill Dady alongside the hand-signature of the Spitfire pilot – Parky himself. I absolutely love this piece, but it’s limited to just 314 worldwide and almost 70% of the edition have sold already!
